What should I do if I miss a dose of Magic mouthwash?
Short answer
If Magic mouthwash is prescribed as needed, there is no dose to make up when you do not need it. If your physician prescribed a schedule, follow the label’s missed-dose instructions or ask your pharmacist. Never double the dose or use doses closer together to catch up.
What to do depends on whether your physician prescribed Magic mouthwash as needed or on a set schedule. With as-needed use, you do not need to take a dose just because several hours have passed. Use it only when needed and within the limits on your prescription label.
If you were told to use it on a schedule, check the label for missed-dose instructions. Ask your pharmacist or prescribing physician if the instructions are unclear. Do not double a dose, use extra rinse, or shorten the prescribed interval to make up for a missed dose. Too much lidocaine or diphenhydramine can cause serious side effects.
If you cannot remember when you last used the rinse, check with your pharmacist before taking more. A written dose log may help you keep track. If pain is leading you to use it more often than prescribed, contact your physician. The rinse should not replace an exam for ongoing or worsening mouth symptoms.
