How do I use Magic mouthwash oral rinse safely?
Short answer
Measure Magic mouthwash with a marked medicine device, then swish and spit as your prescribing physician and label direct. Do not swallow it. Follow any shaking instructions on the bottle. Lidocaine can numb your mouth and throat, so avoid food, drinks, and gum for at least 1 hour afterward.
Follow your prescribing physician’s directions and the pharmacy label each time you use Magic mouthwash. Check whether the bottle needs shaking before you measure your dose. Use a marked medicine cup or oral syringe, not a household spoon. Swish for the prescribed time, then spit the rinse out. Do not swallow it or gargle unless your physician specifically directs you to do so.
Lidocaine can numb your mouth and throat. This can make swallowing harder and increase the risk of choking or biting your tongue or cheek. Avoid food, drinks, and chewing gum for at least 1 hour after use, and longer if numbness remains. Follow any longer waiting time on your label. Avoid hot foods and drinks while your mouth is numb.
Do not use more rinse if pain continues before the next allowed dose. Ask your physician for advice instead. If you have trouble swallowing before treatment, tell your physician before using this rinse. Seek urgent care for new trouble breathing or swallowing.
