Weight loss · FAQ
What dose of Zepbound vials will my physician prescribe?
Short answer
Your prescribing physician will choose your Zepbound vials dose. Follow the prescription and the label for your exact strength. Zepbound is injected under the skin once weekly. Do not choose a dose based only on the vial size, and do not increase your dose without your physician’s guidance.
Zepbound vials contain tirzepatide in different strengths. Your prescription should name your dose and vial strength. Follow your prescribing physician’s directions and the instructions that come with your medication. A licensed physician in your state decides whether treatment is appropriate and which dose to prescribe.
The labeled starting dose is 2.5 mg once weekly for four weeks. The label then calls for an increase to 5 mg once weekly. Later increases, if needed, are made in 2.5 mg steps after at least four weeks at the current dose. The starting dose is not a maintenance dose. Your physician will select a maintenance dose based on your needs and side effects.
Do not move up early or use extra medication to speed up weight loss. Results vary. Before each injection, check that the vial strength matches your prescription. If the label, vial, and instructions do not agree, contact your prescriber or pharmacist before injecting. Never guess the amount to draw into the syringe.
