Can Zepbound vials interact with my medicines or birth control?
Short answer
Yes. Zepbound vials slow stomach emptying, which can affect medicines taken by mouth. They can also raise the risk of low blood sugar with insulin or certain diabetes medicines. Oral birth control needs added precautions. Give your physician and pharmacist a complete list of medicines, supplements, and planned procedures.
Zepbound vials can affect how some medicines taken by mouth are absorbed because tirzepatide slows stomach emptying. Your physician may need to monitor certain medicines more closely. Share all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products before starting treatment and whenever something changes.
Oral hormonal birth control may work less well during certain parts of treatment. The label advises switching to a non-oral birth control method or adding a barrier method for four weeks after starting Zepbound and for four weeks after each dose increase. Ask your prescriber which option fits your needs.
Taking Zepbound with insulin or a sulfonylurea can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your physician may adjust those medicines. Do not change them yourself. Zepbound should not be combined with other tirzepatide products or GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Tell your surgery or anesthesia team that you use Zepbound before any procedure with anesthesia or deep sedation. Delayed stomach emptying can create risks even when you have followed fasting instructions. Let that team decide how to manage your medication.
