How soon might Magic mouthwash relieve mouth pain?
Short answer
The lidocaine in Magic mouthwash may start numbing treated areas within minutes, but relief may be brief or incomplete. Results vary. The rinse does not necessarily treat the cause of mouth pain. Ask your physician when to expect improvement and when ongoing symptoms need an in-person dental or medical exam.
Lidocaine in Magic mouthwash may begin numbing the areas it touches within minutes. Results vary. How much relief you feel and how long it lasts depend on the cause of your pain, the condition of your mouth, and your prescribed formula. Numbness does not mean that a sore or another underlying problem has healed.
This rinse is used for symptom relief in selected cases. It should not be relied on to treat a tooth infection or every cause of mouth sores. Results vary. A licensed physician in your state decides whether it fits your needs. An in-person dental or medical exam may still be needed to find and treat the cause.
Ask your physician how long to try the rinse and when to follow up. Do not increase your dose if relief is limited. Contact a clinician for worsening pain, fever, swelling, trouble drinking, or a sore that lasts more than 2 weeks. Seek urgent care for trouble breathing or swallowing.
