How do I switch from another mouth treatment to Magic mouthwash?
Short answer
Ask your prescribing physician before switching to Magic mouthwash or combining it with another mouth treatment. Share the name, ingredients, dose, and last use of your current product. Your physician decides whether to stop it, continue it, or separate the treatments. Do not assume all mouth rinses serve the same purpose.
Before switching, tell your prescribing physician what you are using and why it was recommended. Share the product label or a clear photo if possible. Include prescription rinses, store-bought mouthwashes, numbing gels, and medicines for mouth infections. Give the dose and the time you last used each treatment.
Your physician will decide whether Magic mouthwash is appropriate and how to make the change. There is no single waiting period that works for every treatment. Avoid overlapping lidocaine, other numbing products, or diphenhydramine unless your physician or pharmacist approves. Do not mix products together in one bottle or dose cup.
Magic mouthwash is not a substitute for every dental or medical treatment. Do not stop a prescribed antibiotic, antifungal medicine, or other treatment without guidance. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for one patient and are not FDA-approved. If the switch is being considered because symptoms are worsening, ask whether you need an in-person exam rather than another rinse.
