How do I switch from another sleep apnea treatment to the Auto-CPAP program?
Short answer
A physician licensed in your state must review whether switching to the Auto-CPAP program is appropriate. Share your sleep study, current settings, treatment history, and medical conditions. Do not stop your current treatment, transfer pressure settings yourself, or combine treatments until your prescribing physician gives you a clear plan.
Switching should start with a medical review, not just a new machine order. A physician licensed in your state decides whether Auto-CPAP is appropriate. Share any sleep study reports, current device settings, recent device data, and details about symptoms or treatment problems.
Tell the physician if you use fixed-pressure CPAP, bilevel therapy, oxygen, an oral appliance, or another treatment. These options are not interchangeable for every person. Auto-CPAP may not fit certain breathing disorders or medical conditions, and additional testing or specialist care may be needed.
Keep using your current treatment as prescribed until your clinician explains when and how to switch. Do not copy settings from a different type of device or combine an oral appliance with Auto-CPAP unless your clinician advises it. Follow the new prescription and device label.
Before the first night, confirm your mask, pressure settings, setup steps, and follow-up plan. Ask who to contact if the machine feels different or symptoms worsen. Bring up any supply or equipment questions before setting aside your old equipment.
