What if I miss a night of the Auto-CPAP program?
Short answer
If you miss a night of the Auto-CPAP program, return to your usual prescribed use the next time you sleep. Follow your physician’s directions and device label. Do not raise the pressure or try to make up missed hours. Contact your care team if missed nights become common.
Return to your usual prescribed use the next time you sleep. Follow your prescribing physician’s directions and the device label. There is no medication dose to double, and you should not increase the pressure to make up for a missed night.
Auto-CPAP provides airway support while you are wearing it and the machine is running. Without it, breathing pauses and daytime sleepiness may return. Results vary. Do not drive or use dangerous equipment if you feel sleepy or less alert than usual.
If you remove the mask during sleep, put it back on when you notice, if you can do so safely. Repeated mask removal may mean the fit, dryness, congestion, or pressure comfort needs review. Your care team can help identify the problem.
Contact the care team if illness, travel, broken equipment, or discomfort keeps you from using the device. Ask for a plan rather than leaving treatment off for several nights. Your physician can advise whether another approach or an equipment check is needed.
