What side effects can happen with the Auto-CPAP program?
Short answer
The Auto-CPAP program may cause a dry nose or mouth, stuffiness, mask marks, air leaks, or bloating from swallowed air. Contact your care team about ongoing discomfort. Do not change prescribed pressure settings yourself. Severe trouble breathing or chest pain needs urgent medical care, not a routine coaching message.
Common problems with positive airway pressure include a dry nose or mouth, stuffiness, skin irritation, and discomfort where the mask touches your face. Air leaks can bother the eyes. Some people swallow air and notice bloating or stomach discomfort.
Tell your care team about symptoms that make it hard to use the device. They may review mask fit, cleaning, humidifier use, or comfort features. Follow your device instructions when making allowed comfort changes. Your prescribing physician should direct any change to prescribed pressure settings.
Do not keep tightening a mask that leaks. Too much tension can hurt the skin without fixing the cause. Report open sores, repeated nosebleeds, ear pain, or symptoms that continue despite basic care. Stop using any damaged mask or tubing and ask about replacement.
Get urgent medical help for severe trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, or swelling of the face or throat. Call 911 for life-threatening symptoms. Coaching messages are not a substitute for emergency care.
