Can medicines or other devices interact with the Auto-CPAP program?
Short answer
The Auto-CPAP program has no medication ingredient, but medicines, alcohol, and other devices can affect treatment safety. Tell your physician about opioids, sleep medicines, oxygen use, and implanted medical devices. Some masks contain magnets. Do not stop prescribed medicines or connect oxygen without guidance from the clinician managing your care.
Auto-CPAP does not contain a drug, so interactions differ from those of a medication. Still, your physician needs a full list of medicines, supplements, alcohol use, and other treatments. Opioids and some sedating medicines can affect breathing during sleep. Alcohol can also worsen sleep-related breathing problems.
Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own. Ask your physician whether your current medicines change the testing or monitoring you need. Tell them about heart or lung disease and any treatment with oxygen or another breathing device.
Some masks have magnetic clips. These may be unsafe near certain implanted medical devices or metal implants. Check the mask’s warnings and tell your supplier about implants in you or a bed partner who may be close to the mask.
Only connect oxygen if your treating clinician has ordered it and your equipment instructions allow it. Oxygen creates a fire risk around smoking or flames. Ask before adding accessories, mouth taping, or another sleep apnea treatment to your setup.
