Sleep · FAQ
Can the Home sleep test replace my current sleep treatment or another sleep study?
Short answer
The Home sleep test is a diagnostic test, not a replacement for CPAP, an oral appliance, or other sleep treatment. A physician licensed in your state decides whether it fits your needs. Do not stop treatment or cancel a scheduled sleep study without discussing the change with your treating clinician.
The Home sleep test collects information about breathing during sleep. It does not treat sleep apnea, insomnia, or another sleep condition. If you already use CPAP, an oral appliance, oxygen, or a sleep medicine, tell the prescribing physician before ordering. Explain why you are considering a new test and share prior sleep study reports if available.
A Type III home test does not collect all the information measured in a full laboratory sleep study. It may not be suitable for people with certain health conditions or those being checked for other sleep disorders. A physician licensed in your state will review your history and decide which testing approach is appropriate.
Do not switch from treatment to testing on your own. Your physician must tell you whether to use your current treatment during the recording. If you already have a laboratory study scheduled, ask the ordering clinician before canceling it. Results vary. A home test may still need to be followed by a laboratory study.
