Can I stop the Auto-CPAP program when I feel better?
Short answer
Do not stop the Auto-CPAP program just because you feel better. Improved symptoms may reflect treatment working while you use it. Results vary. Ask your prescribing physician before stopping or changing use. You may need a review or repeat sleep testing to know whether treatment is still needed.
Talk with your prescribing physician before stopping Auto-CPAP. Feeling more rested may mean treatment is helping rather than that sleep apnea has gone away. Results vary. The device supports your airway while you use it; it does not provide lasting pressure support after you take it off.
If you stop, breathing pauses, snoring, or daytime sleepiness may return. Results vary. Some people do not notice these changes themselves. A physician may need to review device data, symptoms, and sleep testing before deciding that treatment can safely change.
Changes in weight, health, or another sleep apnea treatment may be reasons to reassess your plan. They are not reasons to stop on your own. Ask your physician whether repeat testing is needed and what to use while you wait.
If discomfort or cost is making you consider stopping, tell the care team. They can discuss the problem and available next steps. Canceling a purchase plan is separate from deciding whether it is medically safe to stop treatment.
