Common side effects of bupropion include dry mouth, nausea, constipation, headache, dizziness, sweating, and trouble sleeping. Some people feel anxious or restless. Tell your physician if side effects disrupt your day or make it hard to keep taking the medicine. Do not change your dose without guidance.
Bupropion can raise blood pressure. Your physician may check it before treatment and during follow-up, especially if you also use nicotine replacement. Ask what symptoms or readings should prompt a call.
Seek emergency care for a seizure, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face or throat. After a seizure, do not take another dose and contact your prescriber. Sudden eye pain or vision changes also need urgent medical care.
Report new or worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, severe agitation, or unusual behavior right away. Very little need for sleep, racing thoughts, and risky behavior may be signs of mania. If you are in emotional crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call 911 for immediate danger.
