What should I do if I miss an Allergy Rx dose?

Short answer

Follow the missed-dose instructions on your Allergy Rx label. For the nasal spray, the usual advice is to use the missed dose when you remember, unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not double doses. Ask your pharmacist for tablet-specific instructions.

Check your Allergy Rx label first, since your prescribing physician’s directions take priority. For azelastine and fluticasone nasal medicines, the usual missed-dose advice is to use the dose when you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule.

Do not use extra sprays or take extra tablets to catch up. The tablet ingredient is not named on this page, so its missed-dose directions need to come from the pharmacy label or your pharmacist. If you are unsure how close is too close to your next dose, ask rather than guessing.

If you miss several doses, contact your care team for advice about restarting. Tell them which part of the treatment you missed and for how long. A daily reminder may help you follow the prescribed schedule. If you accidentally take more than directed, call your pharmacist or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 for guidance. Call 911 for trouble breathing, collapse, or another emergency.
