Can I stop taking Bupropion XL 150 mg on my own?

Short answer

Do not stop Bupropion XL or change your schedule without speaking with your prescribing physician, unless you need emergency care for a serious reaction. Your physician will decide whether a dose change or gradual stop is needed. Stopping can allow depression symptoms to return. Results vary. Never split XL tablets.

Talk with your prescribing physician before stopping Bupropion XL, even if you feel well or think it is not helping. They can review why you want to stop, how long you have taken it, and whether another treatment or follow-up plan is needed.

Your physician will decide whether you need a gradual dose change or can stop without one. Do not create your own taper by splitting, crushing, or chewing XL tablets. Do not switch to taking it every other day unless your physician specifically directs you to do so.

Depression symptoms may return after treatment ends. Results vary. Ask what changes to watch for and when to check in. Let your physician know about changes in mood, sleep, energy, or daily functioning during the transition.

A seizure or severe allergic reaction needs emergency care, not a routine stopping plan. Get urgent help and do not take another dose until a clinician advises you. Anyone in a mental health crisis can call or text 988. Call 911 if there is immediate danger.
