Can I drink alcohol or eat normally while taking tadalafil?
Short answer
You can take tadalafil with or without food, but heavy drinking can raise the risk of dizziness, headache, and low blood pressure. Alcohol can also make erections harder to achieve. Results vary. Ask your prescriber about alcohol use, and check with your pharmacist before eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice.
Tadalafil can be taken with or without food. You do not need to skip meals or take it on an empty stomach. Follow your prescription label and any special instructions your pharmacist gives you, especially if you receive a compounded preparation.
Heavy drinking while taking tadalafil can increase the risk of headache, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, and a drop in blood pressure when standing. Alcohol can also interfere with erections. Results vary. Taking extra tadalafil will not safely cancel out alcohol's effects, and you should never increase your dose for that reason.
Ask your prescriber whether you should avoid alcohol based on your blood pressure, other medicines, and health history. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down and avoid driving. Seek urgent help for fainting or severe symptoms.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may change how your body processes tadalafil. Ask your pharmacist whether you should avoid them. Also check before using supplements marketed for sexual performance, since they may contain unsafe or undeclared ingredients.
