Which medicines and supplements can interact with sildenafil?
Short answer
Sildenafil can interact with blood pressure medicines, alpha blockers, certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV medicines, and other ED treatments. Nitrates and riociguat must not be used with it. Share every prescription, over-the-counter drug, supplement, and recreational substance with your physician and pharmacist before taking sildenafil or starting something new.
Some medicines increase sildenafil levels in your body. Others add to its blood pressure effects. Your physician and pharmacist need a full list of what you take to check these risks. Include medicines used only occasionally, vitamins, herbs, supplements, and recreational substances.
Nitrates and riociguat must not be combined with sildenafil. Alpha blockers, such as tamsulosin or doxazosin, and other blood pressure medicines need careful review because the combination may cause low blood pressure or fainting. Do not stop a prescribed blood pressure medicine on your own.
Certain antibiotics, antifungal medicines, and HIV treatments can change how your body handles sildenafil. Examples include clarithromycin, ketoconazole, and ritonavir. Your prescriber may need to adjust treatment or choose a different option. This is not a complete list of interactions.
Do not add tadalafil, another ED medicine, or a second sildenafil product unless your prescriber specifically directs it. Products sold as sexual enhancement supplements may contain hidden drug ingredients. Check with your pharmacist before starting any new medicine or supplement while using sildenafil.
