What dose of sildenafil should I take for ED?

Short answer

Take only the sildenafil dose prescribed for you. Your physician chooses it based on your health, other medicines, and side effects. Do not increase the dose yourself or take it more often than directed. For ED, use is generally limited to one dose in 24 hours, sometimes less often.

There is no single sildenafil dose that is right for everyone. A licensed physician in your state will review your health history and current medicines before choosing a dose. Age, kidney or liver problems, and certain drug interactions may affect that choice.

Follow the amount and timing printed on your prescription label. For ED, sildenafil is generally used as needed, not more than once in 24 hours. Some medicines can raise sildenafil levels enough that a lower dose or a longer gap between doses is needed. Do not split tablets unless your pharmacist confirms that your specific product can be split.

A higher dose does not guarantee a better erection and may raise the risk of side effects. Results vary. If the prescribed dose is not meeting your needs, contact your prescriber rather than taking more.

Do not combine sildenafil with another ED treatment unless your prescriber specifically directs you to do so. This includes tadalafil and other products containing sildenafil. If you accidentally take more than prescribed, seek prompt medical advice.
