What side effects can the TRU-1 GLP-1 response test cause?
Short answer
The TRU-1 GLP-1 response test does not expose you to a GLP-1 drug, so it does not cause that drug’s side effects. A cheek swab may cause brief local irritation or discomfort. Results vary. Stop collection and contact a clinician if swabbing causes significant pain or bleeding.
The TRU-1 GLP-1 response test uses a swab inside your cheek rather than a medicine or injection. It does not contain a GLP-1 drug. Drug side effects, such as those listed for a prescribed GLP-1 medicine, should not be confused with the effects of collecting this sample.
Rubbing the inside of your cheek may cause brief irritation or discomfort. Results vary. Follow the kit instructions for pressure and collection time. Do not scrub harder or longer than directed. If you have mouth sores, recent oral surgery, or active bleeding, ask your prescribing physician whether you should wait before collecting the sample.
Stop if collection causes significant pain or bleeding, and contact a clinician for advice. Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding that does not stop. Genetic information can also bring up questions or worries about treatment choices. Ask the ordering physician to explain what the report can and cannot tell you. It cannot guarantee that a medication will work or that you will avoid medication side effects. Results vary.
