What should I do if I miss a tirzepatide dose?
Short answer
For FDA-approved tirzepatide products, take a missed dose within four days, or 96 hours. If more time has passed, skip it and take the next dose on your usual day. Do not double doses. For a compounded prescription, confirm the instructions with your pharmacist or prescribing physician.
The instructions for FDA-approved tirzepatide products say to take a missed dose as soon as possible within four days, or 96 hours. If more than four days have passed, skip that dose. Take your next dose on the regular weekly schedule.
Do not take two doses within three days, or 72 hours, of each other. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed injection. If you want to change your weekly injection day, follow your product instructions and keep at least 72 hours between doses.
If you have missed several weekly doses, contact your prescribing physician before restarting. Your previous dose may no longer be the right dose to restart. Tell the physician when you last injected and whether you stopped because of side effects or illness.
Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for one patient and are not FDA-approved. For a compounded prescription, ask your pharmacist or physician to confirm missed-dose instructions. If you accidentally take too much, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 promptly.
