How do I take a weekly tirzepatide injection?
Short answer
Tirzepatide is injected under the skin once a week, following your prescription and product instructions. Use the prescribed dose, and do not increase it on your own. A licensed physician in your state sets your schedule. Ask the pharmacy to explain any unclear label or syringe markings before injecting.
Tirzepatide is usually injected under the skin of the abdomen or thigh. Another person can give the injection in the back of your upper arm. Change the injection spot each week. You can generally take it with or without food, at any time of day.
Treatment starts at a low dose. Your prescribing physician may increase it gradually, based on the product instructions and your response. Do not raise the dose, take extra injections, or shorten the interval to try to speed weight loss. Results vary.
Use only the instructions supplied for your exact medicine and device. If your prescription comes in a vial, confirm the dose in milligrams, the concentration, and the amount to draw into the syringe. Syringe units measure volume and do not by themselves tell you the drug dose.
Never share injection devices or needles. Place used needles in a sharps container. Follow the product-specific storage and expiration instructions. Contact the pharmacy before using medicine that looks unusual or may have been stored incorrectly.
