How should I store my Hormone panel kit and collected sample?
Short answer
Store the Hormone panel kit and sample exactly as the label directs. Storage rules may change after collection. Do not refrigerate, freeze, or leave the sample at room temperature based on a guess. Check the return deadline before collecting, and ask for help if the instructions are unclear.
An unused kit and a collected sample may have different storage needs. Read the label before you collect so you know where to keep each item and how soon the sample must be mailed. There is no single storage rule that applies to every home hormone testing kit.
Keep collection supplies in their original packaging until the instructions tell you to open them. Check the expiration date and inspect the packaging for damage. Store the kit out of reach of children and pets. Follow any label directions about temperature, moisture, and light rather than using general advice for medications.
Once collected, seal and package the sample exactly as directed. Do not add ice packs, freeze the sample, or transfer it to another container unless the instructions require it. If the sample was exposed to heat, stored incorrectly, or held past the mailing deadline, contact the service before sending it. The lab may need to decide whether it can be tested.
