How can a practice verify its NPI before ordering through Verra Health?
Short answer
Ask Verra Health which NPI and license records are needed before your practice submits an order. An NPI identifies a provider or organization, but it does not prove prescribing authority. Verra must confirm its current verification process, including whether it supports practice accounts and organizational NPIs.
Before submitting a practice order, ask Verra Health whether practice ordering is available and what verification it requires. Do not assume that entering an NPI creates an approved ordering account. The process may need to distinguish between an individual clinician and the practice as an organization.
An NPI is an identification number. It does not replace an active professional license or establish authority to prescribe a particular medication. A licensed physician in the patient's state, or a dentist for dental care, decides whether treatment is appropriate. Any required license or prescribing checks are separate from NPI identification.
Have the practice's legal name, address, individual prescriber details, and relevant NPI information ready. Ask which records must match and how to correct a mismatch. Submit sensitive records only through a channel Verra confirms is appropriate. Also ask how you will know verification is complete and when updates are needed after a name, address, license, or staffing change.
