Can I use Acne formula with other acne products or medicines?
Short answer
Check with your prescribing physician before combining Acne formula with other acne treatments. Retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and drying products can add irritation. Benzoyl peroxide may need a separate schedule. Share all medicines and skin products you use so your physician can check for interactions and overlapping ingredients.
Give your prescribing physician a full list of prescription medicines, over-the-counter treatments, supplements, and skin products. Include cleansers, serums, spot treatments, and products you use only sometimes. Acne formula already contains an antibiotic and a retinoid, so adding another treatment may duplicate an ingredient or increase irritation.
Other retinoids, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, harsh scrubs, and products with drying alcohol can make skin irritation worse. Benzoyl peroxide is sometimes used alongside topical antibiotics to address antibiotic resistance, but it can affect some tretinoin formulations. Ask whether you need it and, if so, when to apply it. Do not add it on your own.
Also tell your physician if you use erythromycin or medicines that increase sun sensitivity. Ask before scheduling waxing, chemical peels, or other skin procedures on treated areas. Your physician or pharmacist can review the exact compounded formula and recommend a schedule. Do not stop an unrelated prescribed medicine without speaking with the clinician who manages it.
