Dental · FAQ
Can I switch from another mouthwash to Custom antimicrobial rinse?
Short answer
A licensed physician or dentist in your state should review your current treatment before you switch to Custom antimicrobial rinse. Share the name, ingredients, and directions for your current mouthwash. Do not overlap medicated rinses or stop another prescribed dental medicine unless your prescriber tells you how to make the change.
Do not switch from a prescribed rinse or other dental treatment on your own. A licensed physician or dentist in your state decides whether Custom antimicrobial rinse is appropriate. Tell them what you currently use, why it was prescribed, how long you have used it, and any side effects or allergies you have had.
Bring the product name, ingredient list, strength, and directions to your visit. Your prescriber can explain when to stop the old product, when to begin this rinse, and whether any other mouth care needs to change. Do not overlap medicated rinses or replace an oral antibiotic with this rinse unless specifically instructed.
Custom antimicrobial rinse contains chlorhexidine 0.12% and xylitol and is alcohol-free. The lack of alcohol does not remove chlorhexidine’s risks, including staining, taste changes, and allergy. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for one patient and are not FDA-approved. If your current treatment is not helping, an in-person dental exam may be needed before a different rinse is chosen.
