Can Custom antimicrobial rinse interact with toothpaste or other medicines?
Short answer
Custom antimicrobial rinse can be affected by some toothpaste ingredients and other oral products. Tell your prescriber about all medicines, rinses, gels, and supplements you use. Ask your pharmacist how to space it from brushing. Do not combine it with another medicated mouthwash unless your prescriber approves.
Some toothpaste ingredients can reduce chlorhexidine’s activity when they are used too close together. Ask your pharmacist how to separate brushing from Custom antimicrobial rinse. Follow the timing on your prescription label rather than choosing your own waiting period. Avoid following the rinse immediately with water or another mouthwash unless your instructions say otherwise.
Tell your prescriber about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines you use. Include mouthwashes, fluoride products, whitening products, numbing gels, and medicines applied inside the mouth. Do not add another antiseptic rinse without checking first. Using several oral products together may increase irritation or make the treatment schedule harder to follow.
This rinse is meant to be spit out, not swallowed. That does not remove the need for a full medicine and allergy review. Also tell your prescriber if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or receiving dental treatment. Your licensed physician or dentist in your state decides whether the rinse fits your health needs and current care plan.
