Can I stop taking Oral weight kit suddenly?
Short answer
Do not stop Oral weight kit suddenly without guidance from your prescribing physician. It contains topiramate, which may need a gradual dose reduction to lower seizure risk, even in people without a seizure history. Contact your physician for a stopping plan, and seek urgent care for severe or dangerous symptoms.
Talk with your prescribing physician before stopping Oral weight kit. Topiramate usually needs a gradual reduction rather than an abrupt stop. Suddenly stopping it can raise seizure risk, including in people who have never had a seizure. Your physician will choose a plan based on your dose, health history, and reason for stopping.
Because this is a combination capsule, you cannot reduce one ingredient by changing another. Do not open capsules, remove powder, or take them on alternate days to create your own taper. Your prescriber and pharmacy can explain how to follow the stopping plan safely.
If you want to stop because of nausea, sleep problems, or other side effects, contact your physician promptly. Do not wait until your supply is gone to ask about a taper. For a seizure, severe allergic reaction, or other emergency, seek urgent care and tell the care team what you take.
After naltrexone is stopped, opioid sensitivity can increase, raising overdose risk. Do not restart a former opioid dose on your own. Ask your physician about safe pain treatment.
