Mental health · FAQ
Who may qualify for online mental health care for anxiety or depression?
Short answer
You may qualify if a licensed physician in your state finds that your symptoms and health history fit online care. The review includes your medications, past treatment, and safety needs. Bupropion, anxiety and depression care, and performance anxiety treatment each require an individual assessment; approval is not automatic.
A licensed physician in your state decides whether online mental health treatment is appropriate for you. The decision depends on your symptoms, health history, current medications, and the kind of support you need. Completing a visit does not guarantee a prescription or a particular medication.
Share how long symptoms have lasted and how they affect sleep, work, school, and relationships. Include past diagnoses, prior medication use, alcohol or drug use, and any history of seizures or eating disorders. Tell the physician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, or plans to become pregnant.
Some symptoms need in-person care or a more complete mental health assessment. A history of mania, severe mood changes, or thoughts of self-harm can change the safest next step. Treatment for performance anxiety may not address anxiety that occurs throughout the day.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger or a medical emergency, call 911. Online treatment should not delay urgent help.
