What if I miss a Performance anxiety dose before my event?
Short answer
Because Performance anxiety tablets are used as needed, there is usually no missed dose to make up when you skip an event. If you forget a planned dose, follow your prescribing physician’s instructions and the label. Do not double up or take extra tablets to catch up.
For an as-needed prescription, skipping a tablet when you do not need it is not usually a missed dose. You do not need to take a tablet later just to make up for an event that has already passed. Your prescribing physician’s instructions and pharmacy label are the main guide.
If you remember shortly before an event starts, ask your pharmacist or physician what to do. Do not shorten the timing, increase the dose, or add another tablet on your own. Taking extra propranolol can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat or low blood pressure.
If your physician has prescribed propranolol on a regular schedule rather than as needed, the missed-dose advice may be different. Follow that prescription’s instructions instead of this page. If you accidentally take more than prescribed, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 for advice. Call 911 for fainting, severe trouble breathing, a seizure, or if someone cannot be awakened.
