What daily skin care is best for rosacea?
Short answer
A simple, gentle routine is usually best for rosacea: a mild cleanser, a fragrance-free moisturizer, and broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Avoid harsh scrubs and products that sting. Gentle care and sun protection may help limit irritation and flares. Results vary. Ask your physician before adding acne treatments.
Rosacea-prone skin can be sensitive, so a short product list is often a useful starting point. Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. Use your fingertips rather than a scrub brush or rough washcloth. Pat dry, and choose a fragrance-free moisturizer that does not sting your skin.
Sun exposure is a common trigger. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, and follow its label for reapplication. Hats and shade add protection. Some people find mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide easier to tolerate. Sun protection and gentle skin care may help reduce flares and irritation. Results vary.
Avoid adding exfoliating acids, retinoids, astringents, or harsh acne products without discussing them with your physician. Introduce new products one at a time so you can notice reactions. Do not use a steroid cream on facial redness unless a clinician directs you to do so. Facial steroids can cause or worsen rosacea-like rashes. Skin care supports treatment, but it does not replace a medical review of persistent or changing symptoms.
