Verra vs in-person care: When should I choose emergency care?
Short answer
Choose emergency care, not Verra, for symptoms that may be life-threatening. Call 911 for signs such as severe trouble breathing, possible stroke, or serious chest pain. Do not wait for an online response. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Verra is not a substitute for emergency care. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not submit an online visit and wait for a response before seeking help.
Warning signs can include severe trouble breathing, serious chest pain, sudden weakness on one side, or trouble speaking. Heavy bleeding that will not stop also needs urgent attention. These examples are not a complete list. If symptoms feel life-threatening or are getting worse quickly, seek emergency help rather than trying to choose a routine appointment.
For a mental health crisis, anyone can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate physical danger, a possible overdose, or a serious injury, call 911. For problems that are urgent but not life-threatening, a local urgent care center may be more suitable than a routine online visit. Emergency teams can provide hands-on care that Verra cannot provide remotely.
