Verra vs in-person care: Can a video visit replace a physical exam?
Short answer
A video visit cannot replace every physical exam. It lets you discuss symptoms and show some visible concerns, but a clinician cannot perform hands-on checks or procedures through a screen. Verra providers refer you for in-person care when needed. Some states or medications also require a video visit.
A video visit offers more direct conversation than a written online visit, but it still has limits. You can explain your symptoms, ask questions, and discuss your health history. You may also be able to show a visible concern. That does not make video a full substitute for a hands-on exam.
A clinician cannot press on your abdomen, listen to your lungs with a stethoscope, or perform a procedure through a screen. Tests that require a sample or special equipment also need a separate setting. If those steps are needed to assess your concern, an in-person visit is the better next step.
Verra providers refer you for in-person care when needed. A physician licensed in your state decides whether remote treatment is appropriate. Some states or medications require a video visit, even when an online visit is available for other needs. A video requirement does not remove the possible need for a later physical exam.
