How do I switch from topical minoxidil or another hair treatment to Oral Minoxidil?
Short answer
Ask your prescribing physician for a switch plan before starting Oral Minoxidil or stopping another hair treatment. Oral and topical doses are not interchangeable. Your physician will review your current products, side effects, and health history. Do not overlap treatments unless instructed. Hair changes during a switch are possible. Results vary.
There is no single switch plan that fits everyone moving to Oral Minoxidil. A licensed physician in your state should review your current treatment, how long you have used it, and any side effects. Include topical minoxidil, finasteride, supplements, and scalp products. Tell them why you want to switch and whether you have had dizziness, swelling, or heart symptoms.
Topical minoxidil amounts cannot be converted directly into an oral tablet dose. Your physician must choose the oral dose and decide whether to stop, overlap, or continue other treatments. Follow the new prescription label. Do not use leftover products to create your own combination plan.
Hair shedding or changes in growth may happen during a transition. Results vary. Oral treatment does not guarantee a better response than your previous treatment. Ask when to follow up and what symptoms need a prompt call. If your current hair loss is sudden, patchy, or unexplained, your physician may recommend an exam before making a switch.
