Can Oral Minoxidil interact with my other medicines or alcohol?

Short answer

Yes. Oral Minoxidil can interact with other medicines, especially those that lower blood pressure. Alcohol may add to dizziness or lightheadedness. Give your prescribing physician a full list of prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements. Do not combine oral and topical minoxidil unless your physician has reviewed and approved that plan.

Oral Minoxidil can add to the effects of other medicines that lower blood pressure. Examples include blood pressure medicines and erectile dysfunction medicines such as sildenafil or tadalafil. Some combinations may cause dizziness, fainting, or other problems. Your physician needs to review your full medication list before you start treatment.

Include prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins, supplements, and other hair loss treatments. Be sure to mention diuretics, sometimes called water pills, and any medicine used for heart conditions. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own to make room for Oral Minoxidil. Your physician should decide whether changes are needed.

Alcohol may worsen lightheadedness or dizziness. Ask your physician whether you should avoid it. Also ask before combining oral minoxidil with topical minoxidil or starting another hair treatment. Using more than one form is not automatically appropriate. If a new clinician prescribes a medicine, tell them you take Oral Minoxidil and ask your pharmacist to check for interactions.
