Do I need lab tests while taking sermorelin?
Short answer
You may need lab tests before and during sermorelin treatment, based on your symptoms and health history. Your physician may review IGF-1, a marker related to growth hormone activity, and blood sugar. A single lab result cannot establish that sermorelin is needed or that wellness benefits will occur. Results vary.
Your physician decides which tests, if any, are needed before treatment and during follow-up. Testing may include insulin-like growth factor 1, usually called IGF-1, which reflects some growth hormone activity. Blood sugar testing may also be considered based on your risks and treatment plan.
Growth hormone levels rise and fall during the day. A single random level usually cannot diagnose growth hormone deficiency. If your symptoms or history suggest a pituitary disorder, you may need an endocrinologist, specialized testing, or an in-person exam. A wellness screening panel should not replace that evaluation.
During treatment, your physician should consider lab results alongside side effects, symptoms, and the reason for prescribing. Higher hormone levels do not automatically mean better health. Results vary. Ask when follow-up is due, what findings would trigger a dose change, and when treatment should be stopped. Do not increase your dose to reach a number you found online. Keep copies of your results and share them with other clinicians involved in your care.
