Can I use estriol with other hormones, medicines, or vaginal products?
Short answer
Estriol may not fit safely with every hormone, medicine, or vaginal product. Share all prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements with your physician. Include cancer treatments and other estrogen products. Ask your pharmacist whether the cream base affects condoms or diaphragms, and do not add progesterone on your own.
Give your physician and pharmacist a complete list of medicines and supplements before starting estriol. Include estrogen patches, pills, rings, and creams, as well as progesterone, birth control, and cancer treatments. Using several hormone products can change total hormone exposure and may change your risks.
If you take an aromatase inhibitor or another treatment for hormone-sensitive cancer, speak with your cancer care team before using estriol. A licensed physician in your state should review whether the proposed treatment is appropriate alongside your current care.
Whether you need a medicine to protect the uterine lining depends on your uterus status and estrogen exposure. Standard low-dose vaginal estrogen and systemic estrogen have different guidance. Do not assume a compounded estriol cream falls into either category without review, and do not start progesterone yourself.
Ask before combining estriol with other vaginal products. Some cream bases may weaken latex condoms or diaphragms; your pharmacist can check your formula. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for one patient and are not FDA-approved.
