Sexual health · FAQ
Who should not use these sexual health treatments?
Short answer
Sildenafil and tadalafil must not be used with nitrates, including nitroglycerin, or recreational nitrites called poppers. They also must not be used with riociguat. Other limits depend on your health and the product's ingredients. A licensed physician in your state must review your medicines and health history before prescribing.
Do not use sildenafil or tadalafil with nitrate medicines, such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide, or recreational nitrites called poppers. The combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. These medicines also must not be combined with riociguat. Tell the physician if you use any of these substances, even only sometimes.
Heart disease, very low blood pressure, recent heart attack or stroke, and certain eye conditions may make treatment unsafe or require extra review. Kidney or liver disease can affect which medicine or dose is appropriate. Some people should avoid sexual activity until a clinician says it is safe.
Do not use a spray, cream, or chew if you are allergic to an ingredient. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, irritated skin, or genital sores may also affect whether a topical product is appropriate. The product name alone cannot establish safety.
A licensed physician in your state makes the treatment decision after reviewing your history. Share a complete medicine and supplement list. Do not stop a prescribed heart medicine just to use a sexual health treatment.
