How should I store Testosterone therapy injection vials or cream?
Short answer
Store Testosterone therapy exactly as the pharmacy label directs. Keep it secured, away from children, pets, heat, and direct light. Injection vials and cream may have different storage rules and discard dates. Ask the pharmacist before using medication that was frozen, overheated, damaged, or changed in appearance.
Follow the storage instructions on your dispensed medication, since requirements can differ by product and packaging. Do not assume that injection vials and cream need the same conditions. Do not refrigerate or freeze your medication unless the pharmacy label tells you to do so.
Keep it in its labeled container, secured from children, pets, and other people. Avoid hot cars, sunny windows, and damp bathrooms. Store needles and syringes safely as well. Testosterone is a controlled medication and should never be shared.
Check the expiration or beyond-use date before each use. Ask the pharmacist whether an opened vial has a separate discard date, and record the opening date if instructed. Do not use medication beyond the labeled date, even if some remains.
If a shipment arrives damaged or the medication looks different than expected, contact the dispensing pharmacy before using it. Describe any heat or freezing exposure. Do not try to fix a cloudy or crystallized vial yourself. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medication, and place used needles in a sharps container.
