How should I store my Birth control pill pack at home or while traveling?
Short answer
Store Birth control pills as directed on the pharmacy label, usually at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep them in their original pack and out of children’s reach. Ask your pharmacist about pills left in a hot car, damaged packaging, or unusual temperature exposure.
Use the storage instructions on your Birth control label. Most daily pills are stored at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture. A bathroom cabinet or a car can expose pills to conditions outside the recommended range. Do not refrigerate or freeze them unless the label specifically tells you to.
Keep pills in their original packaging so you can track the day, pill order, and expiration date. Store them out of reach of children and pets. Avoid moving them into an unmarked container, especially if your pack includes both active and inactive pills.
When traveling, keep your pack in a secure, accessible place and protect it from temperature extremes. Ask your pharmacist how to handle time-zone changes without creating a late or missed dose. Continue to follow your prescriber’s dosing instructions.
If a delivery or pill pack was exposed to extreme heat, got wet, or arrived damaged, ask the dispensing pharmacy whether it can still be used. Follow local medicine take-back guidance for expired or unused pills.
