Do I need to taper Climax control spray when I stop using it?
Short answer
An as-needed topical lidocaine spray usually does not need a taper. You can stop Climax control spray, but tell your prescribing physician if side effects or concerns led you to stop. Do not replace it with another numbing product without advice, and seek urgent help for signs of a serious reaction.
Climax control spray is typically prescribed for use before activity. When used this way, topical lidocaine usually does not require a gradual dose reduction. Follow any specific stopping instructions from your prescribing physician, especially if your use differs from the typical directions.
If you stop because of irritation, a rash, or unwanted numbness, tell your care team before using it again. Do not keep applying the spray to test whether a reaction will happen a second time. If you have trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, seizures, or blue or gray lips, call 911 right away.
Stopping the spray does not require starting a replacement medication. If early ejaculation remains a concern, your physician can discuss other approaches and whether a further health review is needed. Do not start another numbing spray or change to an oral treatment on your own. Keep any unused medication stored safely and follow the pharmacy’s instructions for disposal once you no longer need it.
