Can Topical Finasteride + Minoxidil interact with other medicines or scalp products?

Short answer

Yes. Other hair-loss medicines, blood pressure medicines, and some scalp treatments may affect the safety of Topical Finasteride + Minoxidil. Tell your prescribing physician about all medicines, supplements, and scalp products you use. Do not combine it with oral or topical finasteride or minoxidil unless your physician approves.

Give your physician a full list of prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and supplements. Include oral minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride, blood pressure medicines, and any other hair-loss treatments. Do not assume a scalp medicine cannot interact with medicines taken by mouth.

Other scalp treatments can irritate the skin or change how much medicine is absorbed. Examples include tretinoin and products that peel or strongly dry the skin. Ask before combining this solution with medicated scalp products. Also discuss microneedling, which can damage the skin barrier and affect absorption.

Your physician may need to adjust your plan based on your health history and other medicines. Do not stop a prescribed blood pressure medicine or another ongoing treatment on your own. Ask whether scalp products need to be used at different times.

Tell any clinician ordering a PSA blood test that you use finasteride, since it may affect the result. Follow your prescribing physician’s directions and pharmacy label. A licensed physician in your state decides whether this combination is appropriate for you.
